On Reciprocity

We exist in relationship. The world could not be for one day without a constant give and take.

We feel our relationships with those close to us, and often forget everything else we are in constant close relationship with like air, water, food soil, and other life.

Reciprocity.

It is truly an amazing thing, especially when honored and felt in the everyday moments of our lives and the living systems we are a part of.

Reciprocal relationships are the very fabric of existence, we just often forget, undermine, or are ignorant of them.

We breathe, we take…but we also give back with our exhale, and the plants breathe…We harvest from the good earth, we take… we give back, with depletion or replenishment. We drink…we inevitably give back to the water cycle.  Even our bodies we eventually give back to the earth.

There is always a silent invitation from the earth-becoming increasingly less silent though however!-to give back and enhance,  rather than depreciate life.

Could we give back more than we take? Could we reach farther than sustainably,  and live regeneratively?

Could we learn like others, to see every taking as an exchange, rather than just a one-way pull in our own direction? Can you feel the love, the true joy and grace of reciprocity, when you do?
